YMCA Chaplain Jez, EVS volunteers Marian and Franzi and Accommodation Support Workers Tess, Jonny and Pete took a group of YMCA Bournemouth residents to Sandyholme for three days of activities and workshops from 27th to 29th June.
We spent time together on the first day getting to know each other and taking part in team-building activities and water sports. We used kayaks, pedaloes, stand-up paddle-boards and a banana boat for the more adventurous! We then settled down with BBQ food (cooked in the rain!) and a movie.
The following day we did workshops in personality profiling followed by thought for the day. We then set off for a wander around in Swanage where we shared a fish ‘n’ chip lunch together. In the afternoon we did a bushcraft activity where we learnt how to make a shelter and build a fire… in the rain! We finally got it lit before toasting marshmallows and making tea for the group. That evening, after a long day, we had a smaller dinner followed by an early night.
On our final day we had a final thought group discussion and a workshop before going to explore the Corfe Castle area. We arrived back at the YMCA for dinner with some tired but happy residents!
