2016 Project: Explore Diversity & European Youth Exchange

The Youth Forum have taken part in a European Youth Exchange. They organised an inspiring conference at the Henry Brown Youth Centre to raise awareness as well as promoting inclusion and equality in the local community.

Explore Diversity was planned for several months by the Youth Forum of young people from YMCA Bournemouth and was the culmination of an 8-day European Youth Exchange with young people from YMCA Bournemouth, YMCA Dobrich (Bulgaria), YMCA Norway and Youth Senate Strumica (Macedonia).

During the Exchange, 27 young participants explored topics relating to equality & diversity as well as learning about different cultures & traditions. The young people made presentations, facilitated workshops and ensured the smooth running of the day.

The conference helped young people to develop their communication skills, focused on equality and diversity awareness in the community and in a wider global sense.

Other topics of the workshops were focused on mental health awareness, access to amenities from the perspective of someone with a disability and raising awareness around physical and mental disabilities.
