Townsend Youth Partnership

The Townsend Youth Partnership is a grassroots charity providing a highly localised service on the Townsend Estate – Bournemouth, one of the 10% most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK, according to LSOA data, 2019.

The objectives of the charity as set out in the constitution are;

  • To advance the education of the public and provide recreational facilities for all young people,
  • To provide or assist in the provision of recreational facilities for young people in the interest of social welfare and do as to improve their condition of life.

Townsend Youth Centre

The partnership provides a safe place (Townsend Youth Centre) for young people to go, providing positive opportunities for them to develop personal and social/interpersonal skills.

Townsend Youth Centre offers a weekly open-access session for young people aged 11-16 years on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8.30pm.

The project aims to engage young people in meaningful activities in their own neighbourhood. Youth workers provide support on topics such as healthy relationships, emotional resilience and CV writing.

  • Activities include:
  • Cooking
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Pool
  • Boxing
  • Football
  • Sessions are free of charge

The Partnership also provides a home for The Chatterboxes

The Chatterboxes is a youth action project run by young people with disabilities aged 11-25 years old from Bournemouth, Poole and other parts of Dorset.

The Partnership hires out the building to generate income to keep the lights on.

YMCA Bournemouth use the space as a Child Contact Centre.

Child Contact Centres provide a facility for maintaining contact between the child and non–resident family members whilst a longer-term solution is established.
