YMCA Bournemouth is proud to partner with South Coast Medical Group and the Health Bus Trust to deliver Covid vaccines to those in temporary or emergency accommodation in our facilities and those across the partnership supporting people in BCP. Dr Maggie Kirk said, “People are coming in here to access the vaccination programme, whereas they would probably struggle to access it at the other named venues around the city… We’ve had over 200 who have booked and consented and wanted the vaccination.”
The YMCA remains committed to provide supported accommodation to some of the most vulnerable in our communities as part of its 140 year old work in the city region. Our desire to work in partnership and our unique whole person approach provides the highest standard of support and continues our track record of supporting people body, mind and spirit. Gareth Sherwood, CEO of YMCA Bournemouth said, “I could not be more proud of our incredible staff and the amazing work they do, day in day out to give life, hope and opportunity to those around them in the many areas we work in.”
We hosted over 25 volunteers yesterday including doctors and nurses, Health Bus staff, navy personnel and a dozen of our team of support workers from YMCA. This widespread and coordinated team effort led to a high take-up in vaccines and also encouraged many living in temporary accommodation to register with a local GP.
