We believe every young person should have someone they can trust.
Townsend Children’s Project is a community-led project supported by YMCA Bournemouth which provides play activities for children in School years 1 to 6, based at Townsend Youth Centre near Castlepoint Shopping Centre in Bournemouth.
The weekly session gives children the opportunity to engage in play activities and develop positive friendships with their peers.
Opening Pattern
- Wednesday evenings from 4.00pm – 5.00pm for children in school years 1 to 3
- Wednesday evenings from 6.00pm – 8.00pm for children in school years 4 to 6
There is no charge for sessions, joining is simple and just requires a parent or legal guardian to complete a registration form: Word Document or PDF version
Activities on offer include:
- Cooking
- Arts and Crafts
- Music
- Board Games & Card Games
- A social space to meet friends and make new ones
- Support in moving up to youth club sessions during school year 7
Youth Clubs
Townsend Youth Centre is also the venue for Townsend Youth Club, which offers weekly open-access sessions for young people aged 11-16 years old on Thursday evenings. Click here for full details.

Facilities for Hire
The building is available for hire. Ideal for meetings, parties, social events and more, the venue offers a bright open-plan area with sofas, a pool table and kitchen facilities included.

In 2023/2024, we hosted 98 Open Access Youth Club sessions for 8 – 15 year olds.
The Chatterbox Project
Townsend Youth Centre is also one of the venues for The Chatterboxes, our youth action project run by young people with disabilities aged 11-25 years old from Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset. The Townsend session is for young people aged 11-18 years old and takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm.
