Level Two – Safeguarding Children and Adults
Course Contents
This course runs for three hours.
Prerequisites
This qualification is available to those over 18 years. No previous knowledge is required, although it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level one literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
About the Qualification
Jonathan McKinney will lead this interactive training event which will explore the increasingly complex challenges faced by staff and volunteers in safeguarding children, young people, and adults.
Jonathan retired as a Detective Constable from Dorset Police in November 2019 after a 29-year career mostly specialising in investigating serious crimes against children and vulnerable adults and all aspects of safeguarding. He qualified as a trainer in 2004 and went on to combine investigation with training multi-agency audiences safeguarding awareness and practice.
What will the event cover?
The world of safeguarding is an ever- expanding arena in which adults and children can become vulnerable to an increasing number of risks. These include County Lines, Cuckooing, Criminal Exploitation, FGM and other areas of Honour Based Abuse, Radicalisation, Controlling and Coercive Behaviour, Financial Abuse and Social Media.
This training workshop will ensure participants understand Contextualised Safeguarding and new areas of risk, how to identify when children and adults may have become vulnerable to them and how to respond.
Aims for the day
- For participants to understand what safeguarding threats exist for adults and children and what factors can make them more vulnerable.
- To identify the potential signs and symptoms of different types of abuse.
- To have an overview of relevant legislation and practitioners’ statutory obligations.
- How to respond to safeguarding alerts and participate in enquiries while continuing to try and apply the wishes of the victim.
- To employ practice which may help to prevent abuse and make it easier for victims to disclose.
Re-qualification is recommended after three years.
Learning Outcomes
This qualification indicates the individual can understand and apply the principles of children/adult safeguarding. The individual will have successfully learnt the course content which is designed to meet current UK legislation.
