Course Contents

This course runs for six hours and thirty minutes, between 9.30am – 4pm and can serve a maximum of 4 people. The below content is for an Excel Intermediate course, so the content for basic and advanced Excel may vary.

  • Selecting worksheet data
  • Customising the Excel environment
  • Creating Data Series
  • Conditional formatting
  • Review of formula and functions
  • Absolute and relative addressing
  • Conditional functions
  • VLookup and HLookup
  • Using and formatting dates
  • Calculating with dates
  • Named ranges
  • Analysing and summarising data
  • Graphics in Excel

Prerequisites

This qualification is available to those of any age, although it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level one literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

For basic courses, no previous knowledge is required. For intermediate courses, attendees must have attended an Introductory-level course OR have a reasonable working knowledge of using Excel. For advanced courses, attendees must have attended an intermediate-level course OR have a good working knowledge of using Excel.

About the Qualification

YMCA Bournemouth has teamed with Linda Honeyborne, Director of Keystrokes. Linda has over twenty years’ experience in computing and ICT teaching. By attending a Keystrokes course, anyone can gain an OCR IT qualification.

The course offers the opportunity for learners to build on their existing skills, explore and practice further functions and also learn ways of using Excel more efficiently and effectively.

Re-qualification is recommended after three years.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course delegates will be able to use and apply the functions and features listed in the syllabus. They will have learned techniques for ensuring data integrity and making their own work with Excel more efficient.

Delegates will be provided with comprehensive course notes and a personalised attendance certificate. Windows laptops are provided for delegates’ use.

Attendees should remember to bring one form of photographic ID e.g. passport, driving licence, or two forms of non-photographic ID e.g. birth certificate, utility bill.
